Below is information on the GOES West Transition plan. This
should be updated on the GOES-R website as well. There will be two drifts
occurring to separate GOES-15 and GOES-17. During GOES-15's drift period, the
LRIT transponder will still broadcast during it's drift, as NESDIS expects no
outages to occur.
For GOES-17 HRIT/EMWIN, the transponder will be activated on
November 15th (exact time during day TBD) and there will be a GOES West stream
available. Product content will be the following:
VCID 0 - Administrative Text
VCID 1 - Mesoscale Imagery, band 2 only for both sectors
available every 15 minutes
VCID 2 - GOES-17 Band 2 Full Disk 2km resolution available
every 30 minutes
VCID 7 - GOES-17 Band 7 Full Disk 2km resolution available
every 30 minutes
VCID 8 - GOES-17 Band 8 Full Disk 2km resolution available
every 30 minutes
VCID 9 - GOES-17 Band 9 Full Disk 2km resolution available
every 30 minutes
VCID 13 - GOES-17 Band 13 Full Disk 2km resolution available
every 30 minutes
VCID 14 - GOES-17 Band 14 Full Disk 2km resolution available
every 30 minutes
VCID 15 - GOES-17 Band 15 Full Disk 2km resolution available
every 30 minutes
VCID 16 - GOES-16 Band 13 Full Disk 4km resolution available
every 30 minutes
VCID 20 - EMWIN Priority 1 & 2 data (non-operational but
available if pushed by NWS)
VCID 22 - EMWIN Priority 3 & 4 data (non-operational but
available if pushed by NWS)
VCID 23 - NWS Tropical Forecast Discussions
VCID 24 - NHC Maritime Products for GOES-17 footprint only
VCID 31 - DCS Data
VCID 60 - Himawari-8 4km resolution IR, Water Vapor and
Visual channels available once an hour
At this time, there will be no inclusion of GOES-17 level 2+
products. The LRIT broadcast will remain operational until GOES-17 is deemed
GOES West.
