GOES-17 Operational Declaration


GOES-17 will become the operational GOES West satellite during the week of February 11th. At the same time the GOES-15 LRIT broadcast will be disabled, but all other GOES-15 services will still be available for a 6-month period in tandem operations with GOES-17. Details below.

Details/Specifics of Change:

NOAA anticipates that GOES-17 will go into operations as the GOES-West satellite during the week of February 11th, 2019. A notification of the exact date and time of transition will be sent closer to February 11th. The GOES-15 LRIT broadcast will be disabled at the same time.

GOES-17 and GOES-15 will operate in tandem from their respective locations of 137.2 degrees west and 128 degrees west through early July 2019.
